| SILENT CHILDREN Have you ever had a child ask you “Why are dinosaurs green?” Have you ever had a child ask you, “Why is it snowing?” Or have you ever had a child ask you, “Why does my mommy hit me?” What happens when children are being abused and neglected and they do not have anybody to answer their questions? What happens when a child does not have a voice to advocate for their best interests? Unfortunately, our community is currently experiencing this tragedy on a daily basis and we desperately need your help. When a child is the victim of abuse or neglect they need a voice in the court system to advocate for their best interests. The Dearborn and Ohio County Guardian Ad Litem Program is a community volunteer based program that works to complete this very necessary mission. Currently 30 children waiting for a Guardian Ad Litem, 30 children waiting to be heard by someone who cares. The Dearborn and Ohio County Guardian Ad Litem Program is under the guidance of Hon. James D. Humphrey, Judge of the Dearborn and Ohio Circuit Courts, and the Executive Director, Maria Bressert. Volunteers who want to advocate for children must be at least 21 years of age, have no felony convictions, be able to keep a confidence, be willing to complete 30 hours of training, and also be willing to commit themselves to complete the cases they take. If interested in helping a child in need, please contact Maria Bressert at 812-537-8865 or at mbdearborncircuit@yahoo.com. A child is waiting to be heard and our community is waiting for you to make a difference in a child’s life. Have you ever had a child say, |
