Stables of Hope

Therapeutic Riding Center

Stables of Hope was established in 2004 for Dearborn County and surrounding areas in southeastern Indiana.

Those familiar with horses recognize and understand the power of the equine to influence people in different ways. Horses are large and powerful, which creates a natural opportunity for some to overcome fear and develop confidence. Accomplishing a task involving the horse, in spite of those fears, creates confidence and provides for wonderful metaphors when dealing with other intimidating and challenging situations in life.

The focus is not riding or horsemanship. The focus involves the use of activities involving the horses which requires the person to apply certain skills. Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem-solving, leadership, work, taking responsibility, teamwork and relationships, confidence, and attitude are several examples of the tools utilized and developed.

We address a variety of mental health and human development needs including behavioral issues, attention deficit disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, work stress, abuse issues, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and communication needs.

Stables of Hope is a non-profit organization and is supported by fund-raisers, grants and donations of such things as money, tack, horses and equipment.
